“Getting straight A’s, giving zero F’s”.

Raunchy comedy Booksmart just dropped its trailer pants. The film is about two nerdy high-school teens who have spent their high school careers getting good grades, but are now trying to make up for it after realizing that yes, even the kids who spent their high-school lives having fun got into good universities.

Lessons will be learned.

Booksmart marks the directorial debut of Olivia Wilde. It is based off a screenplay by Emily Halpern, Sarah Haskins, Susanna Fogel, and Katie Silberman and was produced by Megan Ellison, Will Ferrell, and Adam Mackay.

The film stars Kaitlyn Dever (who was/is terrific in Last Man Standing) and Beanie Feldstein (Ladybird) in the lead roles, with support from Lisa Kudrow, Jessica Williams, Will Forte and Jason Sudeikis.

It premiered at SXSW and will open in US cinemas on May 24th. Check out the red-band trailer below:

American excellence and Top Gun theme return to Top Gun: Maverick

The return of old school American excellence and exceptionalism

What is old is new again, and as the current trends would dictate, still much better. An ageless Tom Cruise returns to helm Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the 1986 classic. The long awaited sequel sees Cruise return as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, 34 years after the original. Now a flight instructor, Maverick is tasked to train and teach the son of Nick “Goose” Bradshaw (played by Anthony Edwards in the original). Goose’s son is played by Miles Teller in the sequel, and rounds out a cast that features a Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, and a returning Val Kilmer.

The official blurb details the plot;

“Top Gun: Maverick takes place 34 years after the events of the original film and pits legendary Captain Peter “Maverick” Mitchell as the new flight instructor of Top Gun, in which he guides Bradley, Goose’s son, who seeks to become an aviator much as his father was.”

Top Gun: Maverick is directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy, Oblivion) and is being released by Paramount Pictures. It is set to hit cinemas June 26th, 2020.

What’s got me excited? The return of Maverick and Iceman, the return of old school American excellence and exceptionalism, the return of that Top Gun anthem (“Danger Zone” is nice and all, but that anthem…), and the return of fighter jets. Give us all the fighter jets. (After seeing the original, I remember visiting my nearest bookstore to find any book they had about fighter jets. I found one, it just had pictures and stats. But what more could a 7-year-old want?)

Jay and Silent Bob return for Reboot

“Ladies, Ladies, Ladies, Jay and Silent Bob are in the hizzouse!”

Published

Generation X’s most famed slackers are back. Jay and Silent Bob make their big-screen return in the upcoming Kevin Smith movie Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. The film follows the exploits of Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith) as they try to stop a remake of the Chronic and Bluntman movie- which was based on a comic book…. based on their likeness.

The film is the eighth film in Kevin Smith’s View Askewniverse and follows up 2006’s Clerks II. The last time Jay and Silent Bob headlined a movie was in 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, which was about Jay and Silent Bob travelling to Hollywood to stop studios from making a Bluntman and Chronic movie… wait, what? Yes, as Kevin Smith has stated, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is; “literally the same movie all over again”.

That’s OK. We love Jay and Silent Bob, and it’ll be better than the Lion King reboot.

Returning to reprise their roles from previous Kevin Smith films are Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Joey Lauren Adams, Brian O’Halloran and Jason Lee.

The film opens in cinemas October 15th and both Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith are taking the film on the road. They will be hosting screenings and Q+A sessions across the US starting in October. You can check out details and buy tickets from the Reboot Roadshow website.

I am thrilled that my childhood is alive and well. Snoochie boo… you know the drill. Check out the NSFW redband trailer.
