20th Century Fox has released the second trailer for the upcoming X-Men film Dark Phoenix. The trailer reveals the origins of Jean Grey's powers, (maybe some) Phoenix Force, and her turn into Dark Phoenix.

The official synopsis of the film goes a little something like this;

"During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together."

Dark Phoenix is the 12th installment in the X-Men film franchise, the follow-up to 2016's woefully average X-Men: Apocalypse. The film stars Sophie Turner as Jean Grey / Phoenix, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Evan Peters and Jessica Chastain.

Simon Kinberg directs based on a script he wrote. Dark Phoenix will hit cinemas June 7th in the United States.
